Bigger than the Baby Blues - Signs of Postpartum Depression?

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Mickael Kerenterff The joy of bringing a child into the world, a baby to love and cherish, may be the plan but to 50-80% of new mothers suffering from a form of depression known as the Baby Blues that dream is not the reality. While not serious, the baby blues can leave a new mother despondent, tired, and subject to emotional swings and loss of appetite. The effects of giving birth, hormone changes and the lifestyle changes of having a newborn (not sleeping, being indoors a lot, responsibilities of caring for a baby) can lead to a bout of the baby blues. Baby blues are usually short lived and go away without treatment. What is of more concern are the less frequent cases where baby blues develop into something longer lived and more severe: postpartum depression. While Brooke Shields (along with the help of Oprah Winfrey) has put a famous face on this dreadful disorder, thousands of women who face the pain and anxiety of postpartum depression fight a private battle of wills between their knowledge of what motherhood should be and their detached feelings, hopelessness and even suicide. What causes postpartum (also known as postnatal) depression and what are the signs? No precise cause has been found that causes a happy, healthy woman to loose her sense of self, desire and joy for life when she should be enjoying the experience of motherhood. While many women suffer side effects from the temporary drain of estrogen hormones soon after birth the effect of this estrogen loss may go even further in women diagnosed with postpartum depression. Other factors, such as financial stress, relationship and communication problems or a history of depression in the family may contribute to postpartum depression. Identifying postpartum depression is crucial since it IS treatable. Often it will become the responsibility of the partner or other friends and family to watch new mothers for signs of depression. Postpartum depression can occur anytime after birth - even up to a year after. The National Women’s Health Information center lists these signs to watch for in mothers who may be suffering more than the baby blues: . Feeling restless or irritable . Feeling sad, hopeless, and overwhelmed . Crying a lot . Having no energy or motivation . Eating too little or too much . Sleeping too little or too much . Trouble focusing, remembering, or making decisions . Feeling worthless and guilty . Loss of interest or pleasure in activities . Withdrawal from friends and family Having headaches, chest pains, heart palpitations (the heart beating fast and feeling like it is skipping beats), or hyperventilation (fast and shallow breathing) After pregnancy, signs of depression may also include being afraid of hurting the baby or oneself and not having any interest in the baby. It is very important for mothers to have a strong support system in place since the demands of caring for an infant, especially when other children are present, can lead to stress and burnout. All most mothers need is loving care and someone to talk to. For those suffering with depression, it is even more crucial. Author: Mickal Kerenterff. Is Your Fertilizer Poisoning You?

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Jason Willkomm A little known loophole in state and federal regulations has been skillfully manipulated for profit at your expense. Actually, at your health’s expense. Environmentally polluting companies have deceptively declared they are recycling in order to divert millions of pounds of toxic industrial waste from expensive EPA disposal facilities to fertilizer production facilities. It is another loophole (fertilizer labeling regulations) and soft money contributions that enable these companies to profit while they poison hundreds of thousands of people and saddle them with serious health problems. Labeling is inadequate, because fertilizer labeling laws only require beneficial nutrients like zinc or phosphate to be listed. fertilizers are sold directly to the public without warnings or information that informs consumers about the presence or quantity of toxic metals. It was the mayor of a small Washington state town, Patty Martin, who initially uncovered the disturbing truth. Her book “Fatal Harvest” details the story and sparked an investigative report by the Seattle Times which has brought the entire matter to a head. The Times documented nationwide use of fertilizers containing cadmium, lead, arsenic, dioxins, radionuclides and other hazardous waste. Between 1990 and 1995, 600 companies from 44 states sent 270 million pounds of toxic waste to farms and fertilizer companies accross the country. Tests by the State of Washington found that some fertilizers contained levels of dioxin 100 times greater than the level allowed for treated Superfund sites in the state. Besides the obvious immediate health concerns, one must consider the long term environmental damage done to millions of acres of farmland. Fruit and grain crops have been proven to uptake lead, and wheat crops and lettuce will uptake cadmium. These companies are producing fertilizers from toxic wastes that farming facilities are spreading over millions of acres of food crop producing land in this country. These fertilizers contain 9 metals, like arsenic and lead, that are known to cause cancer. 10 of the metals, such as mercury, are linked to birth and developmental defects. At least three metals- lead, cadmium, and mercury, are toxins which persist for very long periods of time and can accumulate in the tissues of humans and wildlife over time to become a toxic condition even at lower levels. Another group, the California Public Interest Research Group (CALPIRG), conducted a study that illuminated just how serious and widespread the problem really is. They tested 29 fertilizers from 12 states for 22 toxic metals. All 29 fertilizers were shown to contain all 22 fertilizer samples. In 20 of the samples, the levels were higher than levels for concern. In conclusion, when I first learned of this I got a sick feeling. The Washington State Department of Agriculture has just recently set up a division to have every fertilizer in their state tested and the results published on the internet. I suggest you do as I did, and go to the WSDA website (below) immediately to check every fertilizer you use. http://agr.wa.gov/PestFert/Fertilizers/FertDB/Product1.asp?action=ViewTable&ltr=Mml Visit me, Jason, at http://www.jasons-indoor-guide-to-organic-and-hydroponics-gardening.com/. Rare Coins May Be Hiding In Your Pocket

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

By Charles Roman When talking about coin collecting, rare coins are some of the first things to spring to mind. After all, coin collecting is often considered to be an investment and rare coins are the most valuable coins out there. They are highly sought after and coveted and, because they are in so much demand, they tend to be worth a great deal. However, because they are worth a great deal, they tend to be much more in demand, which increases their value. So if you want to look into rare coins, remember that you have some heavy competition. One of the best places to find rare coins is, of course, in your pockets. No, you are not going to find any coins that are worth thousands. But you can find an occasional needle in the haystack that will be worth much more than you might expect. This is because there are a lot of coins in circulation and some rare coins just float along and get lost in the shuffle because nobody bothered to see what was in their hands. However, as a coin collector, you should take a look at the change that passes into your hands so that you can be sure to catch the occasionally unusual coin that comes your way. Of course, it is difficult to keep your eyes out all the time for that coin that slips through the cracks for years on end, but the rewards are well worth the effort of checking your change routinely. In order to ensure that you find the rare coins that pass your way, you need to be well informed. Which means that you need to do your research so that you know what to look for. You could have fistfuls of rare coins in your hands, but they are only worth something if you notice that they are rare. So you should keep on top of coin collecting and have the research handy when you look through your change for rare coins. Plus, by doing the research now, you can avoid kicking yourself later for overlooking a rare coin that was right in the palm of your hand. Though your own pockets may hold a good supply of rare coins, a more reliable place to hunt for rare coins in at your local coin dealer or online. The coin dealer is often superior in this instance, as you will be able to look at the coins directly, rather than relying on photography and description to figure out if the rare coin you desire is the one you are attempting to buy. However, there are reputable coin dealers on the Internet and they have excellent selections of rare coins. But do your research before you buy so that you know the person you are dealing with can be trusted. Rare coins are not only good investments, they can be fun too. After all, having something unusual that everyone else wants is rather enjoyable on its own. Not only does it provide you with a sense of satisfaction for having found something others overlooked, it gives you the chance to take some pride in your own process of discovery. And, with coin collecting, the fun is not only in having a good collection, it is in building it. So get to building an excellent collection by including some rare coins. Finally…Affordable Prescription Medication without Insurance.

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Garin_Clark] Garin Clark If you are like many Americans, you are without health insurance. And the ranks of the uninsured are growing. According to the National Coalition on Health Care (NCHC), the number of uninsured was a record breaking 45 million in 2003. The growing number of uninsured is in large part being driven by individuals abandoning the corporate life to pursue their dreams as entrepreneurs and small business owners. Unfortunately, this trend comes at a time when more and more medications are available to help treat the serious (and the not so serious) illnesses that many of us face today. But as you probably already know, without health insurance coverage, the prescription medications that you need are oftentimes too far out of reach; they are simply too expensive! To make matters worse, most prescription medications cost far more in the United States than they do in other industrialized nations. These cost differences in conjunction with the fact that so many Americans do not have prescription medication coverage have spurred a national dialogue and heated debate. Despite these discussions, the needed regulatory changes have not materialized. Thus, the uninsured are left feeling that no affordable prescription coverage options exist. Dont Give Up Hope: There Are Options! Fortunately, however, you are not without options. In fact, it is likely that you can afford the medications that you need. How, you ask, is this possible? Well, read on! There are two primary ways you can afford or save money on your prescription medication. They include participating in one of the many (National, State, and Pharmaceutical) assistance programs and/or purchasing your medication from pharmacies located outside of the U.S. Assistance Programs: Save From 25% to 100%! Most persons are not aware that there are hundreds of programs available that provide either discounted or even free prescription medications to eligible US citizens. In fact, there are over thirty different national programs, virtually every state in the U.S. offers some sort of prescription medication assistance, and there are more than 250 different assistance programs offered by the many domestic and foreign pharmaceutical companies. As you can probably guess, navigating the many programs to find the one that best fits your needs can be difficult. Each program has different eligibility requirements, application requirements, etc. However, the work required to take advantage of the program that best fits your needs will likely pay off. If you are eligible for assistance through one these programs, you can expect to save from 25% to 100% on the cost of your prescription medication. Savings like that are hard to ignore. And luckily, there are powerful tools available to help you find the program that is best for you. Purchasing Your Medication from Pharmacies outside the US Assuming that you dont qualify for an assistance program, there is always the option of purchasing your medication from pharmacies located outside the US. While there are many pharmacies in many different countries that are willing to sell to US consumers, the best option is Canada. Why? The answer is twofold. First, buying from Canada is safer. The Canadian equivalent of the FDA, Health Canada, is stricter than the FDA (and other countries regulatory agencies) in its approval of new drugs. Second, Canadian pharmacies, on average, can sell medications for far less than pharmacies in the U.S. and other countries. They can do so for the following reasons:The Federal Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB) regulates medications that are under patent. The PMRB dictates the maximum prices that can be charged in Canada for patented drugs. Health insurers, such as the provincial drug benefit plans, negotiate with the major pharmaceuticals to secure more favorable pricing on the medications that they cover. On average your $1 will buy you approximately $1.40 to $1.60 in medication from Canada. Health Canada is much quicker to approve generic versions of patented medication. The result is generic medications, which always cost less than patented medications, are available sooner in Canada. Although there are many Canadian pharmacies, there are only a select few that you will want to buy from. Just like in the US, there are plenty of people willing to rip you off. And where your health is concerned, you do not want to take a chance. As a result, navigating the Canadian pharmacy option can be confusing and difficult. Luckily, as with the assistance programs, there are powerful tools available to help you find the pharmacy that is best for you. Its Simple to Start Saving Just because you dont have health insurance doesnt mean that you cant afford the medication that you need. The many assistance programs available to US citizens combined with the viable option of buying your prescription medication from Canada present the uninsured with the ability to purchase the medication that they need. Three Keys to Trade Show Photography

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

By Dick Wheeler Trade show photography has one of the largest formats of all photography. Because of this, the professional trade show photographer can magically make the clients logo jump out on the trade show exhibit, have the trade show display look modern and contemporary, and can reproduce beautiful artwork in some of the biggest displays and settings that photography is used. When you are planning to have a trade show exhibit, it is essential to pre-qualify photographers who have experience in trade show display shooting. Your photographer must be familiar with and can handle the demands of producing oversized, exciting, compelling and crystal clear trade show display images. The effective trade show exhibit professional photographer is able to capture very large photo images in a dramatic way. Ideally he/she will shoot with top- of- the line Nikon, Canon or medium format digital cameras that purposefully translate images to large formats. Christian Tanimoto, trade show photographer, re-toucher, and graphics production assistant at Professional Exhibits & Graphics of Sunnyvale, California a premiere trade show display company, says that because of the large size requirement, trade show photography must adhere to special requirements. He gives advice on the three most important ingredients for shooting trade show display images. They are: #1. The size of the digital file is key–the larger, the better. All photos used for trade show displays need to be on a file that is ideally 12 to 16 or more mega pixels. It is always best to begin with a digital file format in order to achieve a highly accurate resolution. #2. Use an uncompressed raw file. It is best to use a file that has does not need to be compressed so that you can have large prints that do not look pixilated. The images must look sharp. By using an uncompressed file, you will avoid the posterized or rasterized appearance. Your trade show display design panel artwork will be crisp, clear and have many levels of tone. If photography is not shot in a large digital format, the artwork needs to be converted from either film, slides, or negatives. The images then need to be scanned, downloaded and compressed into a digital file. #3. Attach color profiles to digital files.By having a large enough color pallet with a wide range of colors, you will be able to select and print true color. Accessing a color profile, the designer can interpret the correct color. You will then be able to accurately communicate color and color match your website and collateral materials seamlessly. Eye catching, stylish trade show photography can be used on a vast spectrum of trade show displays– from the small trade show kiosk exhibit to the custom free-standing multi-story trade show exhibit with integrated office, meeting room and theater arenas. Trade show photography is some of the most exciting photography displayed and needs to always look beautiful and exciting, advises Tanimoto. This is equally true if you are purchasing stock photography for your trade show exhibit. Having a large digital file is the key, whether the artwork is used in a custom trade show exhibit, a custom modular trade show display, or a rental trade show booth. Remember the above tips for impactful trade show photography, and you will have a breath- taking and beautiful trade show exhibit with exceptional graphics. This is true wherever you exhibitbe it the McCormick Convention Center in Chicago, the Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland, the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the Santa Clara Convention Center or the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. How to Spice-Up Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) for a Professional or Business Service

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

By Scott Thompson Standard marketing advice tells most small businesses to create a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) to help differentiate your service from competitors. “What benefit makes your service different?” is usually what the USP is about. But in reality, a USP only takes you so far in the efforts to attract new clients. Why? First, let’s look at some potentially good USP’s for a business-to-business service: - “We specialize in the XYZ industry — with more than 20 years helping clients like you.” - “We’ve developed an exclusive eight-step assessment program that’s unique in determining your best opportunities to improve your operations.” - “We promise to deliver results in less than 60 days, or your money back.” While these are strong USPs, no matter how good your service is, how specialized you are, or how great your service guarantee is, it’s still difficult for a prospective client to get a sense of how it will benefit them. And that means they are still unlikely to choose (or change to) your service over others in a cluttered marketplace. So what can you add to a strong USP? Business buyers are ultimately looking for tangible results for choosing a service provider. They’re looking for more than how you are different than other services available. They want hear about a measurable business outcome for their decision to do business with you. . Here are a few examples of what business buyers are looking for: - reducing costs - increasing revenues - saving time - keeping customers - minimizing risk - reducing labor costs So, how can you spice-up your USP? Add specific results you’ve achieved from previous clients, using statistics from your best customers. Here are some examples: - “We help businesses like yours reduce costs by up to 25% annually.” - “Our service has helped clients increase sales in less than 3 months.” - “90% of our clients last year saw increases in productivity of their workers due our training program.” In sum, the Unique Selling Proposition helps you break the ice in differentiating yourself. But being different is only part of the game. Add a results statement to your USP that appeals to the prospect’s bottom-line needs, and you’ll be much more effective in winning new clients. Foods And Moods Demystified

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

By Mark Corner It has to be said sometimes that we often very rarely think about the connection between foods and our moods it doesn’t really matter, whether you’re feeling happy depressed, anxious, you may tend to think that you are just this way and think nothing else of it. But what if all along you could have been eating the wrong foods which were in actual fact making you feel the way you are feeling or not as the case maybe. The problem is these days that food is available in such abundance and packaged in so many different ways, we may or may not even realise what we are actually eating, such is the power of marketing these days everyone likes to tell you what you are eating is healthy, when nothing could be further from the truth let’s take for instance ready meals the ones you can either cook in the oven or the microwave, these are a great time savers for busy people but the packaging tends to sell the product and sometimes the consumer may be misled as to what they are actually buying, it may say on it low-fat for instance but may have large quantities of salt and sugar to compensate for this so in actual fact you’re not buying anything that is healthy at all far from it. A study was done recently on television whereby two families swapped eating habits for a month, to see how it would affect them one family ate freshly prepared food while the other family ate supermarket ready meals, after the trial was over they were asked how they felt and also various medical tests were done to see how their health had changed during the trial period, the family that ate the ready meals whose health was checked before and after the experiment their health improved due to switching to fresh food, while the other family who switched to eating ready meals now had the problems of high blood pressure, raised levels of cholesterol slight liver damage due to the amount of fat in the diet, said they had no energy didn’t feel like doing much at all, one of their sons wasn’t able to do as much running as he could before and didn’t feel too good at all. So there is a direct link between how you’re feeling and what you’re eating hence the saying you are what you eat. Eating foods that contain refined sugar in them as well as, carbohydrates will tend to make you feel quite relaxed. Here is a list of foods that will make you feel more up beat if you’re feeling down Chicken, veal, low-fat cottage cheese, low-fat yoghurts, and beans, if however you’re feeling quite a bit stressed eat some of the following ice cream, cake, bread, rice and potatoes. Its it’s not a good idea to get into the habit of eating ice cream cake etc when you’re trying to lose weight, but by reading this you will get a insight how certain foods can and do make you feel which in itself can lead to comfort eating at times which is something we want to avoid really if we are trying to lose weight. Better Your Decision With Secured Homeowner Loans

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Steve_C_Clark]Steve C Clark Management of finance is one of the most important human skills. Disparity in wealth is largely due to this skill. We find some people who invest their money smartly and the others simply fumble. This leads to financial emergencies in the long run. But there is always a plan B provided to them in case they fail. This is secured homeowner loans. An impending financial emergency can always be dealt smartly with secured homeowner loans. This can fund your home improvement, car buying, paying of credit card bills, credit card debt or debt consolidation. So you have the smart move on hand to draw money off the investment called your home. So go forward with secured homeowner loans. The popularity of secured homeowner loans is due to its lower interest rates. This is quite understood as it has your home as collateral. Since secured debts require you to place collateral in form of a lien. A lien is a monetary claim against a property to be fulfilled before repeat ownership can take place. In case of secured homeowner loans, your home provides the collateral. This surely guarantees the lender of repayment because failure to repay can lead to the confiscation of your house. The flexibility of repayment terms in case of secured homeowner loans has made it all the more popular. The interest rates offered to the borrowers can be either fixed, variable, capped, discounted or cash back. Fixed interest rate on secured homeowner loans would enable the borrower to repay the loan on a fixed interest rate throughout. It generally happens that the interest rate fluctuates in the financial market. In case of fixed interest rate when the interest rates go down, you are at loss. Such is not the case of variable interest rates on secured homeowner loans. It provides you with the luxury of repaying according to the rise and fall of the interest rates in the loan market. But what if the interest rate rises steeply! To negate this, a capped rate in used. A capped rate mortgage in case of secured homeowner loans is one, which will not allow the mortgage to go above a certain limit, which is called ceiling. Discounted rate secured homeowner loans imply that your payments are based on discounted rates set at a certain level below the variable rate for a specific period of time. There are numerous lenders on the web providing secured homeowner loans. To get the last deal, we should make it a point to make a thorough search on the web, compare quotes of different lenders and settle on the best. What is a Red Flag

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

By Stephanie Manley The focus of many of the last few articles has been on what is does a dangerous person look like, who you should avoid, but did you know that we all have personal red flags available if we just listen to them. Red Flags are signals that we all have, although they may differ just slightly. For some of us they are internal mental grumblings, for others of us it a sinking feeling you get inside, and for some when our bodies are really giving a message it is giving us a physical signs. We all know that red flags are clues that our body sends up when one of our boundaries is being violated. Remember boundaries, are physical, spiritual, and emotional limits that we all have. These boundaries are there as warning signs that someone is encroaching too far into our personal territory. Thankfully our bodies send us signals to help us out with these. Here is a list and its not meant to be comprehensive, but this should give you a good idea of what your boundaries may be. A sinking feeling when you see, or hear from that other person. Feeling anxious when you disconnect with the other person. A nervous feeling around someone all of the time. Walking away with grumblings or a private mental conversation with you. Your pulse quickens when you have interactions with the other person. You dread seeing them, taking phone calls from them, or other contact. You walk away feeling like there is something wrong and you can not put your finger on it. The other person intentionally says things to put you down, in private or in a group of other people. The other person makes jokes at your expense, in private or in a group of other people. The other person says things that are overly harsh, and tells you, they are just trying to help you outYou always have doubt about a relationship, but cant quite put your finger on whats wrong. The other person only has one sided conversations, you are really there just to listen. The other person can not exhibit emotional responses when they should. You feel like this person drains you after connection with them. Does this person try to make you feel guilty? Are you made to feel less well about yourself? These are just a few of red flags that my crop up in dealing with someone. Now, keep in mind these are things are warning signs that should be investigated further. So often we shut down these signals because we think we need to be polite, caring, or otherwise give of yourself because its the right thing to do. From a cultural perspective that may be the correct thing to do, but is it? These can be applied in non-romantic relationships as well. So pay attention when your body is trying to tell you something. Think and take advantage of the wonderful built in warning system that we all have. Daylilies are Easy to Maintain, Naturalize Effortlessly and are Nearly Pest-free

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

By Babu Banik Daylilies Flowers Daylilies are colorful, easy to grow and will shine in many flower garden conditions. Daylilies are rugged, adaptable, vigorous perennials that endure in a garden for many years with little or no care. Daylilies adapt to a wide range of soil and light conditions. They establish quickly, grow vigorously, and survive winters with little or no injury. Daylilies belong to the genus Hemerocallis and are not true lilies. This Greek word is made up of two parts: hemera meaning day and kallos meaning beauty. The name is appropriate, since each flower lasts only one day. Some of the newer varieties have flowers that open in the evening and remain open until the evening of the following day. Many of these night blooming plants are delightfully fragrant. Gardeners love them for their rainbow of colors (they flower in every shade except blue) and many shapes and sizes. They make versatile garden plants too: you can have daylilies in bloom from late spring until autumn. A well-established clump produces many buds and new flowers daily for a month or more. Daylily flowers come in many colors, shades, and color combinations. Some are very full and round, others have wide petals with ruffled edges and borders. Others, called spiders, are spidery in shape; doubles have double the number of petals and sepals. Many are nocturnal and very fragrant and other cultivars have branched flower scapes Daylilies are useful in the perennial flower border, planted in large masses, or as a ground cover on slopes, where they form a dense mat in just a few years. Daylilies grow best in full sun. They will tolerate light shade, but flower best with a minimum of six hours of direct sun. Light shade during the hottest part of the day keeps the flowers fresh. Daylilies should not be planted near trees and shrubs that are likely to compete for moisture and nutrients. Although daylilies are adaptable to most soils, they do best in a slightly acidic, moist soil that is high in organic matter and well drained. Although daylilies tolerate drought, they perform best in moist, but well-drained soils. One inch of water weekly is ideal, more frequent watering may be necessary on sandy soils. Daylilies can be planted almost any time the soil can be worked. You need to till the soil deeply before planting. This plant is a favorite with gardeners as it adapts readily to a wide range of soil and temperature conditions, and is generally quite hardy and free from serious insect problems. It’s an excellent plant for beds and borders, but choose your location carefully as these plants can get rather large (one to three feet in height and across), shading or crowding lower flowers and landscape plants. The best time to transplant or divide plants is early spring or immediately after flowering. Plants divided in the spring may not bloom the same summer. Divisions should have two to three stems or fans of leaves with all roots attached. Make divisions by digging the entire plant and gently pulling the fans apart. Cut the foliage back, leaving only five or six inches. Place the plant in the soil so the crown (the portion where the stem and root meets) is one inch below the ground line. Water thoroughly after planting. A winter mulch of straw or shredded leaves helps ensure against winter injury for unestablished plants. Once established, daylilies require little care and may grow for many years without division. Yearly addition in spring of compost and fertilizer around plants will help maintain best growth. Some cultivars (cultivated varieties) have foliage that lasts well into the fall and can be cut back then or in the spring. Cut back foliage in late summer or early fall on cultivars whose foliage turns brown. When cutting back, pull off any dead foliage and cut back other leaves to within a few inches of the ground. Daylilies seldom get serious insect or disease problems in home gardens, although you might encounter three problems. If foliage is damaged as it emerges in early spring, from cold for instance, it may emerge distorted. This is often called spring sickness, and plants will usually begin to grow normally with good weather and care. Insect control measures usually are not necessary. Aphids and thrips sometimes feed on the flower buds. These pests can be controlled with insecticidal soaps or a repeated strong spray of water. Annual fertilization may be helpful in producing more flowers. A spring application of manure or compost is beneficial each year. For best bloom daylilies require much fertilizer and moisture prior to bloom time. They will tolerate less fertilizer and poorer soils, but wont bloom as well. Apply granular, organic liquid-soluble, or foliar-applied fertilizers according to label directions. Daydilies are easy to maintain, naturalize effortlessly and are nearly pest-free. They grow in a wide variety of conditions, have a long bloom season, multiply indefinitely and make great cut flowers. So go for these beautiful plants to gracefully adorn your garden!
