Buying Underwear For The Woman In Your Life - The Golden Rules

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Emma Cooper Tarry There are two golden rules for choosing underwear for the woman in your life: ignore them at your peril! 1) Make sure you get the right size This is relatively easy - all you have to do is have a look at the label inside a bra that she often wears and note the size (numbers and letters, eg 36C) and do the same for a pair of knickers. Just don’t let her catch you rummaging in her underwear drawer or she might get the wrong idea!! Then take yourself down to the nearest lingerie outlet (try a big department store - you’ll get more help choosing and you’ll get extra brownie points for the effort), find someone to help you and tell them the size you need. Ladies in lingerie departments are extremely helpful when it comes to helping a chap choose… :-) DO NOT buy smaller than your girlfriend/wifes size. It is the best way to get yourself stuck in a series of Does My Bum Look Big In This- type interrogations. Equally, dont buy bigger, for the same reason. If youre stuck, choose the smaller of the two options, but make sure you keep the receipt and make it clear when you present her with the gift that you wont be offended if the size is wrong 2) Try to buy for her, not just for you Just because you think that Jenna Jameson looks hot in red fishnet stockings and a black PVC basque, it doesnt mean that the real woman in your life fancies wearing them;-) If shes more of a white cotton underwear kind of gal, introduce her gently to the world of sexy underwear, perhaps starting out with plain white or cream satin or lace. If shes more adventurous in what she wears, go with the flow and choose accordingly. DO NOT, under any circumstances, buy her red underwear unless she has plainly stated that she likes it. Trust me, its a girl thing If you want to buy her naughty/kinky underwear, I would definitely recommend that you take her shopping with you. Try Anne Summers outlets for a gentle introduction. Buy her underwear that, first and foremost, she will feel beautiful in, and you will be on to a winner! Good luck! You, Your Cell Phone and Europe

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Dulaney]John Dulaney The European Union spreads out from the west coast of Ireland to the eastern borders of Latvia and from the Arctic Circle to the Mediterranean Sea. Travelling to Europe brings you the experience of a rich carpet of landscapes, flowing from the Rock Mountains to the grand beaches, through the green pasture and acrid land. While you travel through Europe, you will find the people with diverse traditions, cultures and languages, making up over 7% of the worlds population. The historic heritage of Europe is defined in its prehistoric cave paintings, in the ancient antiquities of the Greeks and the Romans, in varied architecture of the Vikings and Moors, palaces and baroque churches. You will also find the modern Europe with its vibrant cities, colourful cultural festivities, varied cuisines and winter and summer sports. The cell phone has become a part of your modern day life and where-ever you go, the cell phone in your hand makes you comfortable, knowing that you can be touch with the world at any time and at your will. Europe has GSM technology, a digital mobile communication technology, being used over 214 countries in the world, having more than 80% of the total mobile subscribers in the world. The tangle of mobile frequency bands prevailing in the world is comparable to the mixture of television standards that we have. But then again, at least there is one standard prevailing in one country which makes life easier. In the Unites States, there are dozens of such incompatible mobile frequency bands operating on different network. Even if you have a GSM handset, it is unlikely that it will work in Europe. Europe works on entirely different GSM network frequency bands. North America, Canada and a few other counties in the Americas, work on 850MHz and 1900MHz frequency bands, which have set those countries apart from rest of the world. The first ever digital mobile communication technology, which stormed the world, is the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM). This open architecture technology was first started in Europe and is now prevalent in 214 countries in the world. It replaces the old analog version of mobile telephony and is called the second generation (2G) of the wireless mobile communication with Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) transmission technology. With this technology the voice is uniquely digitally coded by an encoder, which emulates the characteristics of a human voice. It features not only digital transmission of voice but offers General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), a mobile data service, offering up to 115 kilobits per second of data transfer rate. Amongst others, GPRS offers access to data networks like internet, through your mobile phone. GSM countries work on distributed four different set of frequency bands, with some counties operating on few common frequencies. These frequency bands are - 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 1900 MHz. While the GSM networks in North America and Canada and a few other countries near-by are operating on 850MHz and 1900MHz bands, the other countries in the world use entirely a different set of frequency bands, making the GSM phones in Americas incompatible with the communication system in major part of the world. Due to this incompatibility, mobile phones are available in three categories. The Quad-band phones would work on any GSM frequency and are compatible with all the four sets of GSM frequency bands. The Tri-bands support 800MHz, 900MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands, which work in most country networks, while the Dual-bands work on 800MHz and 1900 MHz GSM frequency bands. If you are travelling to Europe, you need to be aware of the network frequency bands of those European countries that you are visiting. There are continuous attempts to achieve world-wide phone standards which are being prevented by the competition between the technological companies and the political interests. These are an existing dispute with the United States and Europe, over a universal mobile telephony standard. While Europe has achieved quite a formidable standard in providing the world with GSM digital technology, the United States and Canada go on using a different technology using Time Division Multiplexing (TDMA) or Code Division Multiplexing (CDMA) transmission technologies, which are incompatible with GSM. Today, the Unites States is moving slowly towards GSM a service which is being provided by some of the companies like, Cingular and other vendors. The ideal solution for moving around with your mobile phone would be one phone, one number that would work anywhere in the world. A roaming status on your US mobile gives you that feature but there are other fall-outs to be considered. Roaming is a word used in wireless telecommunication, where, it refers to extending the connectivity services in a location different from home, and perhaps to a network owned by a different service provider. Roaming occurs when the subscriber of one service provider uses the facilities provided by another. This kind of service can be offered by the service providers entering into service agreements with the others, which include financial aspects also. When you are on roaming, the communication that you have is transmitted through the tower of a different service provider, owing to the arrangement that your service provider back home has with your current one. This involves financial aspects where this service provider charges your provider for the service that they provide you with. This is the reason why you are charged extra for the services that you use while on roaming. The charges may be a standing fee included in your monthly bill as long as you are roaming. Remembering that all incoming calls are free in Europe, while you roam, your outgoing call charges cost more with added roaming charges and your incoming calls are also charged since you are on a roaming status. These charges are levied owing to the financial arrangement that the two service providers have in entering into service agreements in providing you with the roaming feature. While roaming provides you with one phone and one number, the down-side of it is that it is expensive. There are many reasons why you should travel to Europe with a cell phone. Using the telephone in your hotel room might turn out to be an expensive matter and having a cell phone with you has not only the advantage that you may call your associates, your friends or your family back home, but also, you are within the reach of the ones who often call you for different purposes. You can have incoming calls coming in your handset no matter where you are. More-over, your cell phone becomes handy during emergencies. Cell phone plans are different in Europe than that what you have in the United States. For one, all incoming calls are free of charge. There are provisions to go in monthly paid services in some countries in Europe, but mostly the services taken up are the pre-paid ones, where you pay for your talk time credits in advance. As soon as you use up that credit, you can top up your talk time by buying recharge vouchers of different denominations. You will require buying a SIM card for such a plan. There are options available in the United States, where you can buy a SIM card for specific country that you are visiting and rent a compatible GSM mobile handset to go with it. This provides you with a local number and you pay for your call charges as the locals do. You do not receive any bill what-so-ever at the end of the month and you do not pay for any roaming charges. Specifically you do not have to enter into any contract in buying such a pre-paid SIM card. This saves you 80% of your call expenses and with pre-paying for your talk time you can keep a track of your expenses and remain within your budget. If you are travelling to an assorted number of countries in Europe, you have various options in buying an international SIM card and rent the appropriate GSM phone. The Talkabroad SIM card lets you have a single number where-ever you go and will let you make and receive calls. Talkabroad is far cheaper than your mobile on roaming. It offers a pre-paid SIM card which comes with a certain amount of talk time credit, which you can replenish by buying recharge coupons. These coupons are available in practically any shop in the country that you are visiting. The cost of the outgoing calls is a bit more expensive than the country specific SIM cards and incoming calls are free in all the Western European countries and nearly half a dozen countries of Eastern Europe. Talkabroad SIM card allows you to roam over 100 countries during a trip, where people can reach you on one phone number. The package offered by Talkabroad consists of a tri-band GSM mobile phone and a pre-paid SIM card with 30 minutes of talk time credit. Talkabroad is valid for 9 months from the time of your most recent use. The account may be kept alive by making a call, sending SMS message, or buying a recharge coupon at least every nine months. Mobal is a company based in the United Kingdom and offers SIM card which may be used in over 50 international locations. Mobal international is not a pre-paid service and is a pay-as-you-go service, where you receive bills, with the bill amount debited to your credit card. Mobal is cheaper than the charges that you pay to your US service provider, but the call charges are higher than the country specific pre-paid SIM cards. Mobal becomes feasible economically if used less than two hours or so, while you are travelling. If you anticipate heavy usage while travelling in countries outside the United States, a Hop SIM card may be an option for lower call charges. Mobal SIM card is available free of cost. The cell phone that you carry with you is required to be SIM unlocked, for only then you may use SIM cards of your choice. SIM locked phones are meant for the SIM card that it is meant for. SIM locked phones are usually available free of cost when you enter into a contract with a service provider, where a clause in the contract stipulates that you will be required to use the services of that particular service provider for a specific period of time, which is typically one year. The mobile phone that you receive from them will only work with the SIM card that you had received from the same service provider. Therefore, whether you take your own GSM phone, rent or buy one, you need to make sure that the cell phone is SIM unlocked. Careful planning of your visit to Europe will provide you greater savings in your mobile communication while you are abroad. The planning would provide you with the idea of that SIM card that you need to buy, so as to give you an optimum saving in your cell phone usage. For more information and price details, visit www.planetomni.com/ Cell phone use overseas. In 99% of the world the local cellular service standard is called GSM. We use this in the states as well. When combined with a SIM CARD (which usually goes under the battery of the phone) the phone is able to communicate and the SIM CARD also holds the telephone number and memory for pre-paid credit. Rates can be extremely low using this system. For example in 99% of all SIM CARDS incoming calls are free and calls to the states can cost a trifle. Such as, from the UK to the USA 7 cents/minute, from Israel 22 cents, from Australia 27 cents. Yes, USA Dollar cents! There are today even prepaid service providers in the USA offering rates of 10 cents per minute to call anywhere in the US to any type of phone. No contracts, no credit card checks, no bills. Pre-paid always means no minimums no contracts, no obligations. You only pay for the calls made. You’ll need an unlocked GSM tri-band or quadband UNLOCKED phone. Male Plastic Surgery: Happening More and More

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Nicola Kennedy In this modern society, beauty and looks are valued an awful lot. As a result, men from all walks of life desire plastic surgery for aesthetic reasons. Men typically crave for a perfect nose, a slender waistline, a rejuvenated face, and normal-shaped ears. The key intent is to attain an enhanced look, which in turn instills a sense of confidence and self-esteem. Perfect features, acquired after cosmetic surgery, do widen a mans social horizon and certainly help him in wooing pretty women. Men may also opt for plastic surgery to defy signs of aging. Wrinkles, facial marks and blemishes, unwanted hair growth, all can be effectively erased through plastic surgery. Plastic surgery has always been the primary choice for women when it comes to personal enhancement. However, with increasing awareness about the surgery prospects, more men are lining up for plastic surgery procedures than ever before. In the present scenario, it would not be surprising if a man comes up with a request for a facial plastic surgery so as to acquire the looks of his favorite Hollywood actor. Mens facial cosmetic surgery poses greater problems than womens. This is because male facial skin has a richer blood supply. And since male faces bleed more during surgery, there is a possible risk of temporary pooling of blood under the skin, after surgery. Other factors that need to be considered for male facelift are the extent of beard growth and the hairline. Though advanced equipment is capable of averting any danger or risks, male cosmetic surgery is certainly more complex than the female counterpart. Other cosmetic surgery procedures, including eyelid surgery, nose surgery, liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), and ear reshaping, are performed in much the same way for men and women. Plastic surgery provides a boost for men in their business life as well as love life. There is simply no reason why men would shun plastic surgery. Bedroom Marketing

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Len Dozois Hopefully we are all adults here, so let’s talk about sex for just a minute. No, I’m not talking about porn sites, I’m talking about taking a look at what I call ‘Bedroom Marketing’ and applying the same principles to Internet marketing. I don’t care if you’re a female or a male. Play this scenario out in your head: You walk in the door and yell “Honey, I’m home. Take off your clothes and jump into bed because I really want you and I know that you want me too.” I don’t know how things work around your house, but over in my neck of the woods it’s going to be “No Sale”. And why would you expect anything different? Let’s take a look at what was done wrong. This was a high-pressure attempt to “make the sale” without any regard for the feelings or state of mind of the other party. It was assumed that the other party was in the mood to “buy” and the pitch did not give the person any other option but to say “Yes” or “No” when a “maybe later” would have given the desired results. There was no attempt at rapport building.(OK, Dr. Ruth doesn’t call it “rapport building” but you know what I mean.) There was a failure to build the other person’s interest in and excitement level over the offered “product or service”. So, if you wouldn’t expect that kind of approach to work with someone who hopefully loves and trusts you, why in the world would you think it would work with complete strangers? You know what I’m talking about. We’ve all received an email that says something like: “Wow, I just discovered the most amazing program. My sponsor has only been in for 14 days and he’s already made $144,000!!!!!!!!! This is so good, trust me I know a good thing when I see one. THIS IS NOT A SCAM!!!!!!!!! Just click here and pay a one-time $19.99 NO SPONSORING!!!!!!!! I’ll help you make money. This CAN’T FAIL!!!!!!!!!!! Just sit back and let the money roll in!!!!!!! I joined Monday and already I’ve made over $200!!!!!!!!!!” The so-called marketer blows this ad out to 155,000 Safelists, FFA and Classified sites, and maybe SPAMs a few news groups along the way. Two days go by and no sales. The Marketer quits in disgust and tells everyone that Internet Marketing is a scam and no one is making any money. “Trust me,” he says, “I know, I tried.” You think I’m exaggerating? One of the sites that I own is a Safelist Autoposter. We sell membership for $4.99 per month and our members can automatically post their ads to hundreds of safelists, with hundreds of thousands of members who have agreed to receive them. Anyway, whenever someone cancels their subscription we automatically send them an email containing an Exit Poll form. We offer them the chance to win $50 in return for telling us why they quit. (We also recommend one of our other sites that may be better suited for them, but that’s another article.) We learn a lot about how to make our program better, but we also get to scratch our heads in wonder over responses like this one: “I’ve been a member of your site for 10 days now and I haven’t sold a thing. The Internet is full of thieves and liars and you’re just one more of them.” Out of curiosity, I checked the sales letter he’s been sending. Here’s what he wrote: “You are paying too much for your long distense service. Send an email to (address deleted) and see HOW MUCH IT WILL COST YOU with mine.” Ok, let’s take a look at what he did wrong besides failing to run his spell checker. He made a high pressure attempt to “make the sale” without any regard for the feelings or state of mind of the other party. Not only was it high pressure, but it held his offer out in a negative fashion when he said, “Send an email to (deleted) and see HOW MUCH IT WILL COST YOU with mine.” Sheesh, at least he could have said “how LITTLE it will cost you.” What he did was the equivalent of saying:”Honey, I’m home and I’m dirty and sweaty and I had a garlic and onion sandwich which I’m still burping up every five minutes.” “Take off your clothes and jump into bed because I really want you and I know that you want me too.” Sure, that’s a home run proposition waiting to be hit out of the park. He assumed that his prospect was in the mood to “buy” and did not give them any other option but to say “Yes” or “No” when a “maybe later” would have given you the results he was seeking. In fact, he really didn’t give them any option at all when he said:”Send an email to (deleted).” No one in their right mind is going to respond to an offer from a total stranger and give that stranger their email address. It’s no wonder he didn’t make any sales. He didn’t take any time to build a rapport. He tried (and failed) to pull off a slam-bam-thank you-m’am (or whiz-whirr-thank you sir) and fell flat on his face. Try walking up to someone in a bar and saying, “Hi, are you hungry or horny,” and see how well you do. He failed to build an excitement level over his product or service. He didn’t even build a mild curiosity level. In fact, his letter doesn’t even rate a twitch of the right eyebrow. Hmmm, does all of this sound familiar? I wonder what would happen if he tried that on his spouse when he arrived home from work? No nookie there I’d bet, and no sale from his ad either. I see so many people fail in their attempts to advertise their product or services. A lot of them tell the same story as Mr. No Nookie in the example above. Keep this in mind — Even though the Internet offers an instant medium for reaching people all around the world, the basic laws of sales have not changed. In order to close the deal you must: 1. Eliminate any high pressure attempts to make the sale. Stop using hype and, for Pete’s sake, use the exclamation point sparingly! Not only is an educated prospect more likely to buy, but they are also more likely to refer others to your site, and they are more likely to respond to future offers that you make to them. Give the customer an option of saying “No”. Some truly interested prospects just won’t be able to buy right now for a variety of legitimate reasons. Make sure that you offer them the opportunity to join your e-zine or newsletter, or sign up for an autoresponder series. Do something that gives you the opportunity to stay in front of that customer until they are ready to say “Yes”. 2. Go slowly and get your prospect into the mood to buy. Don’t rush in there and yell “Give me your money”. Take the time to determine what the reasons are that someone will buy your product and weave those reasons into a word picture that elevates the prospect’s curiosity and enhances their buying mood. 3. Build a rapport with your prospect. People want to be talked to, not at. Show them that you are a friend and a expert in your field by EDUCATING them and not SELLING them. Combine this step with step #2, and you can write as long of a sales letter as you need (but not ONE WORD LONGER) without fear of losing the truly interested prospect. 4. Create a level of excitement over your product or service by explaining how it’s going to change their life, or save them money, or make them look more attractive, or whatever your USP (Unique Selling Proposition) is. What works in the bedroom works in the market place. Try it! Len Dozois is a freelance article and copy writer and “Chief of Surgery” at http://www.CopySurgery.com. Quick Access to Finance Assured Through Instant Payday Loan

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mary_Jones]Mary Jones Salaried people do not earn so much as compared to ever increasing expenditure that the pay may last up to the next paycheque. Often by the mid of the month, they are in the need of money to finance various works. They do not want to opt for regular large amount loans as their requirement is smaller amount of loan at the earliest that can be repaid shortly. Instant payday loan is what they are looking for which is especially crafted for issuing loan amount instantly to salaried people or any other type of borrower. One can utilize instant loan payday loan amount for whatever purpose like home improvements, financing a vehicle, clearing medical or education bills of going to holiday tour. Taking instant payday loan is very easy process. The borrower offers a post dated cheque, containing loan amount and lenders fee, to the lender as security. On the basis of the cheque the lender releases the loan amount in the borrowers bank account wherefrom he can take the amount for personal utilization. At the due date of paying off the loan, lender deposits the cheque in borrowers bank and gets back the loaned amount. Instant payday loans are called so because of their quick approval. Once the lenders are fully satisfied with the details of repayment capacity of the loan seeker, he will approve the loan instantly as there is no collateral involved for valuation which consumes time. The loan comes in borrowers account within 24 hours of applying for it. The loan seeker should therefore make it sure that the information he gives to the lender is accurate. Because of unsecured nature of the loan, instant payday loan come at higher interest rate. One reason for the higher interest rate is that the loan is availed for a very short repayment period of one to two weeks till the borrower gets his next paycheque. Also the lender charge high fee on the loan. Borrowers should not be discouraged by higher interest rate or fee as their goal is to get instant loan. Moreover, the loan amount and repayment duration is so smaller that the interest rate burden is not felt. Another way to avail instant payday loan instantly is to apply online for the loan. This medium allows the lender to quickly process the loan. Just basic information about the loan amount, repayment duration etc and within hours you are conveyed of the loan approval. Instant payday loans are useful to salary earners in taking an instant loan. Pay off the loan in time to avoid high fee and higher interest rate. Mary Jones is an expert financial advisor. How to Make a Calendar

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Barbara Ryan Making a calendar does not have to be a difficult process, it can be done rather easily at any good quality online photo service. These services make the process very simply and guide you step-by-step. The digital images, its quick and easy and the end result is a perfect, unique gift. Grandparents especially enjoy receiving these photo calendars of grandchildren, a gift they can enjoy all year long. The first step is to select the pictures you would like to use. Close ups, scenic, and action shots make the best photos to use. Be sure the quality of the photo is good, although most online photo services will advise you if the picture you try to use is not of a high enough resolution. They take the guesswork out of the equation if you are not familiar with photo resolution, pixels and the like. You will also want to consider the months and decide which pictures you want on which months. Perhaps a good action shot of children sledding for January. Next find the photo site you would like to use. My personal preference is Shutterfly because I have used it many time, but you can use any one you are comfortable with. All online photo sites have easy upload tools with guide you through the process of uploading your pictures to their website into your own account. Once your account is set up and your pictures are uploaded, simply go to the sites storefront, choose create a calendar and you are almost done. The creation tool will guide you through selecting the pictures to use, how to place them in the appropriate month, and make any adjustments needed. Shutterfly has an online editing tool that allows you to edit the pictures, add borders, change the color, add frames, etcyou can get creative. Name your calendar and choose a cover picture. A collage of all the pictures from every month would make a nice cover. You are done and ready to order as many copies as you need. In very little time you have created an inexpensive but very personal and unique gift. Its must better than going to the mall and battling the crowds. Tips For Buying Great Knives

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Kurt K. Schefken The process of making a great set of knives is not as simple as it seems. There is a certain level of artistry and science that goes into knife making. If you want to learn about how the blade, grind, and handle come together to make some of the cleanest and most beautiful designs of sharp and ready-to-use knives than read on. There are different types of finishing that can be used to make the knife have its unique look. If you have a knife that was finished in the stonewash fashion than it will have that sort of vintage or antique look right away because of the abrasive pattern on the knife. IF you get a knife with a vibe finish than it will have some abrasions, like the stonewash finish, but not quite as many. Knives are heat treated to turn them into their sharp final products. Annealing is one step that helps knives out and treats them with high heat before they cool. Hardening allows knives to use a combination of annealing. Tempering is a process that controls how the cooling process is done on the knives. If your knife has 13% chromium or more than most knife experts would tell you that your knife is stainless steel. This isnt exactly accurate because with misuse your knife could still rust. Even though this is the case, it will still take a long time for this to happen. You can also choose from non-stainless steel blades that can be even better and last longer than those that claim to be stainless steel. You may wonder why youd want a blade that wont give you as much protection against rust, but there are reasons to consider it. Damascus steel is a combination of metals and this greats a great looking knife! Kurt Schefken’s news stories are found on several online publications tied to information on sharpening. From his reports such as http://www.insidewoodworking.com/sharpening/knifesharpeners.html, the author affirmed his depth of understanding on problems relating to knife sharpeners. Does Your Marketing Plan Need Changing?

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Joy Gendusa Change is good, right? Not always. But when is it bad? Is it a question of good or bad? Sounds philosophical. Maybe it is. Philosophize on thiswhy would one take something that is going good no.. great and change it? Obvious answer is to make it better. Not! In business or in marketing, change is not always good. When you have certain promotional actions that are in place making things happen, or in better terms, making you money dont change them! Why do I say this? Because I see it time and time again. Someone has a marketing campaign that is bringing in a good return on investment and they up and decide to change their postcard! What?!?!?!?!? Change your postcard why??????? Er uh, we just decided to do something different. And then some three or four months down the road, they call back with their tail between their legs and ask no demand to have everything back the way it was before. In this latter case change is good. I am not just saying that to say that one should always keep their postcard marketing campaign the same and never change it. Quite the contrary. Change your marketing, change your habits, change your way of life when it warrants it. There is really some truth to the old adage If it aint broke, dont fix it. Maybe it is human nature to want to change everything once something gets going just the way they planned it. Who the heck knows? All I can say is step outside the human-nature box. Change only when things are drastic or when change is warranted. Drastic circumstances deserve drastic measures. But how do you determine drastic? Sometimes that is really easy. Your companys income is crashing. Do something! Change! Or better yet, figure out what you changed and get it back to what was working. How about a plateau? Does that deserve change? Depends on how long that plateau lasts. I have never seen things leveling off and staying level forever. It either goes one of two ways up or down. I know an optometrist who had a very successful practice in small town USA. He never really marketed. He never really had to. People knew of him from miles around. Mainly he did PR stuff a fundraiser here, networking there, etc., etc. His good works made him well known and respected and the community oooed and ahed over him so much the paper loved printing it. But things changed. Malls started opening up. People started shopping out of small-town USA and into the bigger cities. The environment changed. But he didnt. He still kept a good practice, but you could see something interesting his gross income started to plateau. And over time many years that plateau gradually started to show where it was really going. I actually dont have to say where youve got the picture. Now, would that demand drastic measures? Taking into account inflation, cost of living and other factors that are on the rise yes, I would say that would demand drastic measures. Did he take them? Not until the direness became all too apparent. But yes, he finally did take them. He started postcard marketing his you-know-what off! I have another client that is just a dream. They have had the same list for the past 5 years, ever since they have been in business thirty thousand physical therapists they mailed to over and over and over and over and They never changed. They figured if it was bringing in the income it was the thing that was working. And it worked and it still works. And today they made Entrepreneurs 100 Hot List for 2005. So, next time you think about changing your marketing plan, look to see if it needs it. Look at your numbers. Are they improving? Declining? If your income is going up dont change one single thing. But if it is going down or flat lining for heavens sake, change! Joy Gendusa founded PostcardMania in 1998, her only assets a computer and a phone. Is Branding Important for Solo-Professionals? Take My Branding Quiz

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Debbie LaChusa You’ve probably heard the term “branding.” It gets thrown around a lot these days. In fact when I typed the word “branding” into Google there were nearly 70,000,000 search results! It is a popular topic! But is it just for big businesses like Coca-Cola, Microsoft and Nike? Do solo-professionals and small business owners need to worry about branding? I believe that in many ways it’s even MORE important for solo-professionals and small business owners to brand. But, before we get into why, let’s get clear on just what branding is. Here’s a paraphrase of a Wikipedia definition I found that I think sums it up pretty well. What is a Brand? A brand is a collection of images and ideas representing a business. More specifically, it refers to the concrete symbols such as a name, logo, tagline and design scheme. Brand recognition is created by the accumulation of experiences a person has with a specific product or service. This includes their experience using the product as well as how they are influenced by the company’s advertising, design, and media exposure. In short, a brand is a symbolic embodiment of ALL of the information connected to a company, product or service. Why Branding is Important for Solo-Professionals If you’re a coach, consultant or some other type of solo-professional or small business owner, odds are there are many other coaches, consultants or business owners who do what you do. These other business owners are your competitors because they are people your clients could hire instead of hiring you. If you don’t take the time to create a brand, your services will not stand out. They will not be unique. And you will not be giving people a REASON to hire you or buy from you instead of your competitors. What Happens When You Don’t Have a Brand If you don’t take the time to create a brand, you and your business are generic. They don’t stand for anything. So, you will struggle more to get clients and you will be forced to compete on price. And, that’s the hard way to market and be successful. Branding isn’t something you need to hire a marketing agency or consultant to do for you. You can do it yourself by taking a few simple steps. Your Marketing Step I want you to step back and ask yourself a few questions to determine if you have a brand, or if your business is generic. 1) Does your business stand for something beyond just the services you offer? For example, 10stepmarketing is a brand because it stands for simple, step-by-step marketing. Everything is built on this foundation. It is what the business is known for. The look of my marketing materials portray this simple, no-nonsense image. And, my products and services are all designed to be simple and step-by-step. Conversely, a marketing consultant who only markets the service of marketing consulting, without any kind of differentiation, does not have a brand. 2) Do all of your marketing materials and messages consistently portray this brand image? Look at your website, your business cards, your ads, the articles you write, your newsletter, your press releases and anything you use to market your business. It should all reflect your brand and what it stands for. Anything a prospect or client sees from your business should be easily recognized as being from you - in the way it is written and the way it looks. This recognition creates trust, which is a key marketing ingredient for solo-professionals and small business owners. 3) When someone purchases your product or service, is their experience consistent with your brand image? Do you deliver your products and services in a manner that is consistent with your brand? Take a look at the experience your clients have after working with you or buying one of your products. Is that experience consistent with your brand image? If after taking this short brand quiz, you find that you DON’T have a brand and you are currently marketing and selling a generic service, I encourage you to take steps today to start creating a brand. Determine what you want your brand to stand for. What you want it to represent. And start incorporating this into EVERYTHING you do.
